Thank you to those who have helped photograph events this month. We have a lot of events coming up in March and April and I want to encourage you all to come along with us. Several of our members who've done events have offered to team up with anyone who'd like to come and help us but isn't quite sure what is expected, where they can go or what settings to use. I can totally understand the hesitation to jump in and take event photos because I was the same way. Then I realized I'm not the only one taking photos. The organizations we take photos for really appreciate what we do and it is the perfect opportunity to learn some tricks and practice your skills. Please let us know that you want to team up and we will be happy to do so. My guess is that you are a better photographer than you think you are.
I also want to encourage you to come out with us on our other outings and have some fun taking photos. Scott generously offered to meet at the Viera wetlands to help with sunrise and bird in flight photos earlier this month. The sunrise was so-so and the birds were not really cooperating so I started looking for something else to take a photo of and spotted this small, sunlit, dew covered flower in the grass. It wasn't what I was there for, it isn't perfect but being willing to look for something different often pays off.
Come out with us and see what you can find.
Susan

GENERAL MEETING - MARCH 20
|
WHAT: PHOTO REVIEW AND A SPECIAL
PRESENTATION BY
FLORIDA'S BIRDING & PHOTO FEST
WHEN: MARCH 20, 2017
TIME: 7pm - 9pm
We will have a presentation by "Florida's Birding & Photo Fest" representatives about their upcoming event.
|
The 2017 Birding & Photo Fest will feature the return of festival favorites, world-class photographers along with new professionals and instructors who will offer technical training opportunities and more birding in-field programs than ever before.
As always, festival participants will benefit from insights and instruction from a collection of upper echelon international nature and wildlife photographers - a group that continues to solidify Florida's Birding & Photo Fest as one of the premier events in North America. And of course the community of St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and all of Florida's Historic Coast is welcoming bird lovers and photography aficionados with the friendly hospitality you've come to expect.
|
For our meeting bring 5-7 pictures taken at recent events or any other recent photos in a folder labeled "OPC Review" on a thumb drive that contains only those photos. Use a labeled folder with only those photos in it to make it easy for our projectionist.

CITY HALL GALLERY
Theme - Open - Deadline March 22
|
The theme for the next round of photos for the City Hall Gallery is open and the deadline for submissions is midnight, March 22, 2017. You may submit up to five photos taken of any subject in any location (G rated please). They must have been taken since March 22, 2015. We will be choosing five new photos for City Hall. The five oldest photos in City Hall will be moved to the Annex building to replace five of the photos currently there. Their three favorite photos, from among the current group hanging, will remain in the annex until the next change.
The submissions will be handled a little differently this time. Please email the club that you wish to participate and you will be provided a link to a dropbox folder for your photos. Do not create a dropbox folder yourself to submit photos. All files submitted should be at a ratio of 3 x 4 but file should be large enough to print at 12x16.
You will only be able to see your photos, you will not be able to see the other submissions until after the submission deadline. All submitted photos will be renamed to be anonymous and submitted to our curator for the selection process. You will receive a confirmation email after the photos are renamed and submitted so you can verify they have all been provided to the curator. Once the selection process is completed all submissions will be placed into a nonpublic folder for everyone to see. If your photograph is chosen there will be a $50.00 charge for printing and framing your photograph. All photos will be printed by the club for a consistent appearance.

OVIEDO FARMER'S MARKET - APRIL 1
|
Plan ahead! We will be hosting a booth at the Oviedo Farmer's Market the first Saturday in April, so decide what you would like to display.
Space is a bit more restricted this year, so we are asking that members submit no more than three photographs and we will not be able to accommodate boxed prints. All photographs should be mounted or framed and ready to hang.
As in prior years, the photographs may be offered for sale or simply displayed to "show off" your work. Any photograph offered for sale must be marked with a price and the member must be present.
The Oviedo Farmer's Market is held the first Saturday of each month at the Lawton House.
